Meeting of Medcom UIAA

Czech Republic, Zdonov
Location:
We decided to locate the meeting to a small village called Zdonov – in a famous Czech sand stone area “Adrspach – Teplice rocks” - see picture. Zdonov is a small village near the village of Adrspach or the town of Teplice nad Metuji. Please, see GPS coordinates and “access”.
Accommodation:
Boarding and lodging for members and guests are provided in Pensions Montana and Slunovrat in a small village Zdonov. There are 2 to 4 bedrooms; each is equipped with a toilet and a bathroom. Parking is in front of the pensions. Price for one night is 10 €. Meals for the whole day cost about 12 €. The pensions are very close to each other – about 50 m. Meeting of MedCom and boarding will take place in the hall of Pension Slunovrat. Data projector and PC are available for presentations.

Access:
By Air: The biggest international airport is located in Prague. Other airports are situated in Brno, Hradec Kralove, Karlovy Vary and Ostrava. The nearest airport is Hradec Kralove. We suppose that most of you will arrive to the international airport in Prague. We can reserve cars or a mini bus for you from the Prague airport. The bus will go to Zdonov late in the afternoon. We will specify the final time of the departure in accordance with your arrivals.
By Car: GPS coordinates: Zdonov, pension Montana and Slunovrat N 50° 37´ 31,1´´ E 16° 08´ 35,9´´
From Prague: D11 to Hradec Kralove, next turn off E67 to Jaromer, next turn off route No. 37 to Trutnov, then route No. 14 to the end of Trutnov – Porici and change direction to the route 301 (follow the direction “Adrspach”), in village “Chvalec” sharp turn off to the left to zig zag route to Dolni Adrspach and then to the left to Zdonov. Distance is about 170 km from exit D11 in Prague.
From Brno: Follow the direction “Svitavy” after the route R 43 to the town of Svitavy and next village of Trebovice, then turn left to the route 14 (follow direction Ceska Trebova, Usti nad Orlici, Vamberk, Rychnov nad Kneznou, Dobruska and Nachod till village Horni Radechova), then turn right to the route 303 to Hronov and Police nad Metuji, then follow the direction Teplice nad Metuji and Zdonov. The distance is about 190 km from Brno.

Climbing and walking:
Climbing is possible with mountain and rock guides. There are big walls and towers of sand stone. Most of the routes are cracks. Sand stone is a little soft, so using iron materials (friends, nuts etc.) is not possible. Protection is allowed using strips or knots only. The routes are usually protected by scarce rings. Advice of locals is strongly recommended. If you wish to climb, please bring your climbing shoes and harness with you. We will reserve ropes, strips, other climbing material and climbing guides. Climbing during rain and using chalk bag is banned.
Walking is easy; we recommend soft trekking shoes.
Weather:
The weather is a little instable in the beginning of October. Sometimes the weather is very good – warm and sunny during the day (late summer), sometimes is rainy and cold. Please, see the weather forecast before your arrival. Adrspach – Teplice rocks are not mountains. Altitude is maximum 660 m. We have reserved nice weather.
